Inspiration for this design came from the stylized shapes and strong symmetry of the art deco movement. The bold lines of my version of the iconic Empire State with its rhythmic repeats invokes the jazz influenced feel of the era. Rich, vibrant colors and distinctive yet simple graphics, make up this fun and unique design.

With instructions for either an infinity scarf or a standard cowl, this knit is not only a stylish statement accessory to add to your wardrobe but also a piece to keep you warm in the cooler months.

This colorwork piece is knit in The Plucky Knitter’s Traveler Aran. So if the colorwork graphics alone don’t inspire you, The Plucky Knitter’s amazing hand-dyed palette will!

    • This design is knit in the round, using a provisional cast on.

    • Finishing work includes grafting live stitches using the Kitchener stitch.

NOTE ABOUT GAUGE: Gauge for 1-color and 2-color knitting can vary. Because there are sections of this pattern knit with 1-color and sections knit with 2-color it is important to check your gauge to ensure accurate sizing. You may need to adjust needle size when knitting with one color versus two colors. Remember blocking will help even out your stitches, so block those gauge swatches too! All this considered, if your gauge does vary between 1-color and 2-color knitting, you can either adjust your needle size as necessary or you can choose to see this variation in gauge as a design element. The choice is yours!
